Center Board problem

I could use some help. My Son bought a 1984 O Day Day Sailer 2 and we, Son and I were attempting to remove the center board for some line replacement. We were just getting started and we got two screws out on one side. The two on the other side just spin, don’t one out or tighten. What would be the fix for this problem? I’m pretty mechanical, I just don’t want to make things worse or more expensive than it has to be

You're probably going to have to extract the screws, fill in the holes then re tap, or through bolt, in order to use the same holes on the centerboard. Or...you may be able to just drill new holes in fresh place, as long as it doesn't affect the mechanism or the cb.

Thank you for your reply.
Thought about the extract and re tap. As for the through bolt, how do I gain access to nut the top, if I understand you correctly? Or, is there a metal plate that the screws screw into? Is there a diagram that shows the layout of this?

Is it possible to provide pictures of the CB and trunk to illustrate what screws you are pulling? I'm having a hard time picturing why any screws need pulling to replace the lift cable, if that's what you mean by "line replacement".

Generally, a lift cable can be replaced by lowering the CB, cutting the cable at the aft edge of the board and pulling it up and out through the top of the trunk to re-thread the new cable, drop the new cable end back down through the trunk, to catch to under the boat and reconnect it to the CB.

It sounds like you are trying to remove the CB by pulling multiple screws, which makes me believe you are removing things from the truck that don't need to be removed. A CB is held in by only the pivot pin forward and the lift cable.

The way I understand how the center board works there is one ( the cable ) as you described that raises and lowers. A second that holds it down. Those are the line I’m speaking of. As for the. Screws are the 4 with two stainless steel plates holding what are described as wedges in place. Sorry I could have been more descriptive. I’m not currently where I can get a picture of what you requested.
Do you have a solution or and explanation on how to fix the problem I have with the screws? I believe they’re stripped. How do I access them is it possible? As you have probably guessed I’m new to this and this is a project that my Son are doing together.

I'm sorry, I own an O'Day Mariner; I do not know the Daysailer II, so I can't offer any specific advise without knowing more about the bolts/screws.

If they are bolts, and just spinning, they may be still embedded in the wedges you mentioned, and the wedges are free spinning inside the trunk. Drop the CB and see if you can reach up inside with a piece of wood to hold the wedges or nuts from turning.

If they are truly stripped, try yanking them out with vice-grips or a claw hammer then, maybe you could install a satisfactory insert that will hold.

What kind of forces are these screws expected to take? Do they need a backing plate or might filling the holes with epoxy and drilling and tapping new holes be enough? I still can't picture what their job is, so my advice must remain highly suspect. I wish I could do more to help.

Hello
I wanted to update a give the info that I found out about my problem. There is a brass plate that was glassed in place when the boat was built. It was than drilled and tapped to hold two stainless steel plates which support the wedges and the center board sets on top of the wedges. I got this info from the the Day Sailer Association website. I emailed them. When they are striped it was suggested to drill and tap to the next size bigger.
Thank you for your help

My DS II was built before the change to this centerboard pivot pin setup, but here are a few pictures that I got from another DS II owner for my Expanded Manual.(maybe I found them here or on the DSA web page)
