This weekend my wife and I spent our first night aboard our 1982 Hunter 22. We went to a dock in Cobb Island and got a slip for the night. Later on in the night the harbour got a little chop to it. It was coming from the side of the boat and the boat was rocking a little. This caused the centerboard to move and it made this loud boom sound when it shifted side to side. I tried letting the board down and it still made to noise. Has anyone experienced this before? Is this obnormal for a Hunter 22? Is there any way to take care of the noise?

Know what you mean!

I have the same issue. Although I did not take him up on it, another owner recommended that one get a rubber mat from the electrical company (free when they wear-out), cut two circles about 9in diameter, and epoxy them to the board around the pivot. He said no more slap noise and it lasted him over 20 years...Seth
