After some investigation and some asking around West Access Marina here at Lake Carlyle I THINK I've come up with a reason for the water going into my bilge - when I'm underway. Yesterday, while my wife was at the tiller - motoring back to the marina - I removed the cover plate beneath the table - I saw spurts of water coming from between two pieces of metal - occuring only when we're underway. The hypothesis is that it then runs beneath the floor to the bilge - hence the problem. I took some photos with a friend's digital camera - as soon as they e-mail me the photos I'll upload them with this post. Anyway - my first impulse is to dry the area and then hit it with something: Silicon? 3M 5200? Any suggestions? Thanks, Tom Grass Grasshopper II Carlyle, Illinois

I think I recall...

That someone reported that if the centerboard is at just the right angle while motoring, then water gets forced up the control line tube. I wouldn't use 5200. Silicone or caulk (like DAP Kwik Seal) would be a better choice (IMO). Fair winds, Tom

Same problem with my 23.5 I think?

I went out sailing yesterday with a dry bilge and when I pulled it out of the water on the trailer I found water in my bilge. NOt a lot but about 1/2 gallon. I need to pull my access plates around the compression posts and see what is down there. Anyone else experience this on a 23.5?

Compression Post base

I recently identified this same problem on my H-260 and after talking to my dealer and Hunter Marine was told to just fill the area between the base of the compression post and the collar on the plate at the top of the keel trunk with 3M 5200. I also made a collar of gasket material to fit around the post and help fill the area. So far no more leaks. In the archives, you can find the post and treads on this problem, just search for "compression post" and 260. Brigg
