When I tried to back out of my slip today, the boat would not move. I ended up donning a wet suit & found the board jammed into the mud. I lifted the board; it freely swung up & down but the pendant line is jammed & will not move. What to do?? Where is it attached?? Thanks in advance, Jerry

Usually, the pendent line is attached to the trailing edge of the board, via a shackle. The pin of the shackle fits through a hole in the board, and the pendent line is attached to the shackle, and then runs up through the stub keel to the cockpit. If you didn't see the pendent line when you moved the board, then my guess is that the pin on the shackle failed, and when you pulled on the line, the shackle was brought up into the stub keel farther than it was supposed to go and jammed itself in there. You may have to pull the boat out of the water to get up in there to pull it out. I don't think you can push it out from above; I recall reading somewhere that the pendent line run on the 192 is not a straight shot from the cockpit; there may be a block inside the bilge to turn the line. If it were a straight line run, you could get a three foot rod (1/4") at the hardware store and poke it into the pendent line hole in the cockpit to try and push the shackle out from above. I used to do this on my Oday 23 whenever the board got stuck. I've been told that you can't do this with the 22 or 192 however because of the different pendent line configuration. Good luck.

Thank you for your simple, clear explanation. I will have to pull the boat now & figure out how to do the repair. Jerry

Jerry, look under the bridge deck. You will see an aluminum tube that runs down and then aft into the bottom of the keel. You'll have to take the board out from behind the companionway step to see it all the way back.

As for underneath, up in the CB slot in the keel, well, I haven't had to look up in there yet. I do remember Joe "Trinkka" Alves saying there should be a sheave up inside on the 222, that his was missing at the factory, and after chafing through several pendants, he replaced it. The 192 being the smaller boat designed after the 222, it will be similar, but possibly not exactly the same.

Replacement assembly is available at D&R Marine.

It might be possible to fix in the water. It is not difficult to drop the centerboard on a trailer. Four bolts fasten two plates and wedges that hold the centerboard pin in place.

There are photos posted earlier this summer in this forum.
