We are interested in boosting our Hot Spot at the fringe areas of our coastal islands, along the northern Gulf coast 5-25 nm out from Cellular towers.

Being a renewing (slowly) HAM General License, I was talking with the Owner of 10 ATT local stores, sailor and friend. He at first suggested a water proof container for our cigarette pack sized ATT Unite Netgear Hot Spot and hoist it up the flag line (about 35' Above Water Line).

No wires and omni-directional.

Then he pointed me to this site.

And now the Ham bug bit me again.
I had a 40meter vertical WILSON. Fantastic performance.

Now I want to mount, at least at anchor, a Yagi or semi-parabolic directional antenna and maybe a booster amplifier.

Yes, I do know about antennae , have made many, understand them, and pointing to Source, but my mouth watered at the 10dB gain (≈200 times) signal boost by the vertical Yagi.

Most would shrug their shoulder and say get a omni-directional and a signal amplifier.

But you guys may have a brainstorm or experience.
Jim...

PS: This may be my 3-5 dB option
