We are planning to take Commitment up for a vacation cruise in the southern half of the Chesapeake this year and will need real time cell phone/internet connectivity in order to be comfortable in taking the time needed away from the office. The cell company coverage maps don't show coverage on the water. Can anyone with current advise as to what areas from Patuxent River southward are likely to not have good coverage with AT&T or Verizon.

thanks,

We always get verizon voice and data at anchor in various spots on the western shore but in the remote areas it will likely be modest 3g.
Eastern shore may be more difficult. Have not done the lower eastern shore but getting signal on the northern eastern shore is difficult, even with a good Wilson booster amp.

I'm on the south river in the central Chesapeake and get decent coverage (Verizon 4G LTE) pretty much anywhere on the western shore. I'd figure as long as anchor out near populated areas you should be okay.

Been up and down the Bay, and circumnavigated the Delmarva. Rarely had a problem with cell phone coverage.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Tangier and Smith Island have been my dead spots for Verizon. I use to have an air card on my laptop and used it almost everywhere. It is pretty wild being in the middle of the bay on the internet.

If you get a chance and can take time away, Tangier Island is well worth the visit!

That said, Tangier has good free wifi at 3 Brothers, which is only a 5 minute walk from the docks. They don't mind if you sit there all day. The Smith Island marina had wifi last time we were there.

While there are other dead spots, they are remote areas and are generally places you would spend only one night.
