The original ceiling cloth which covers the inside walls of my 33 is pretty scanky and needs to be replaced........anybody have any good ideas on how to fix this problem with a reasonably priced easy to work with material that will look good and last

How long do you want it to last?

Don: Now that cloth liner needs to be replaced after only 20 or so years. How long would you like the next product to last. The cheapest and probably easiest way is to find some replacement material and just strip the old stuff off and glue on the new stuff. We are planning on using something like mahogany battens over stringers glued to the hull on our H'31. We got a price of about $115 for the mahogany to do our v-berth. The one thing that you alway consider is that cheap is not always the best way to go. If you go to sell the boat and it looks poorly, you may have a difficult time moving the boat.

Same problem

I actually had a carpet cleaner come and clean the liner a few years ago. It was amazing. It actually looked pretty good once more, but the glue came loose in a few places. Apparently you can squirt some glue in behind the cloth to make it adhere. I have yet to do this as the problem is not severe, but I have a friend who has done this, with good results. However, I have to admit that Steve's mahogany battens sound pretty sumptious to me. There are some pictures of a 33 done this way in the Cherubini 33 section. It sure would spiff up the boat and set it apart. I guess I would vote for clean and re-glue, or go whole hog, for the mahogany. If you want to buy new material, I have seen just about the same stuff in RV's so I am sure an RV store could help.

That foam headliner stuff.

Visit an upholstery-supply place, perhaps with a scrap ot the original stuff, and see what they have. It is 1/4 foam with the vinyl backing. Raider and Cherubini bought from John K Burch Inc in Delran NJ. I don't know where Hunter either in northern NJ or in Florida got theirs. However I happen to have at least half a ROLL of the stuff right here in this garage! [wink] JC
