Simple

Just take all your top hardware off and yank it out. I'm saving that project for next winter, I'm not looking forward to the mess.

Yea I tried that at first but it seems that the carpet is so rotten that the fibers tear without any progress of getting the carpet off. If that makes any sense. I didn’t know if there was a way to loosen the adhesive.

I would think a hot air gun

like a blow dryer and a scraper would do it. Thank goodnes mine still looks brand new.

carpet

carpet is attached to plywood. Tak all the hardware off and remove the plywood with carpet on it. DON'T through it away, yet. Use the old moldy stinking carpet covered wood as a templet to trace out new headliner on new wood. Plywood if you want to glue carpet on it again (I wouldn't). I traced mine on a nice piece of laun, got fancy and routed grooves every 1-1/2" and coated both sides and edges with epoxy. Install back in the boat. Keep the wood light (in color) and the cabin will be brighter. Easy to clean, looks great, will out last any carpet. Won't melt if the lantern is hung too high. Won't mold, mildew, and if it gets wet will dry fast, and not smell. Oh and lighter. If you need the insulation factor of the carpet, add 1/4" foam between the wood and the cabin top. Still lighter, more insulation, and added floatation.
