CE marking

Has anyone had their Vega assessed for CE marking? I've sailed my Vega from Florida to
Spain and am hoping to head to England to sell her, but need to get a CE mark first.
Apparently I need all the drawings re. the boat's construction, but don't have any. Otherwise
it will cost me £3000 - £4000 to get her assessed! Has anyone gone through this process
and can give me any help?

Thanks,

Isla

Hi Isla

Cant see that being true. These Vegas are 35 years old and teh CE has
onlybeen in existance afew years. We have over two thousand Vegas here
in Europe and none have CE approvals. Dont worry. Onlky thing you will
have to do is pay VAT on its current value.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, because my Vega
was exported to the US and was not in an EEA country
before Jan 1st 2005, it may need to get CE marked. I
may be exempt because it was built in Sweden, but I
keep getting different answers from different people.
The concensus seems to be that it needs to have "been
in Service" (ie it was in the water, apparently) in an
EEA country at some point. I may get around this if
the Vega's were sea-tested, or even put in the water
at some point before they were exported, but I phoned
Albin Marine and they say they have no records to
prove this either way. Do you know anything about
this (or anyone who might)?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Isla,
I bought my Vega in Berlin Germany in 1983 and had her shipped to the states in 85. I then re-shipped her back to Europe in either 2000 or 2001. The Dutch made me pay the VAT. VAT had been previously paid by the original owner when the boat was first sold in Germany, but I had no proof. No mention has ever been made of the CE since I have been here, and I have cruised most of the Baltic including Russia and they have never even asked for any paperwork of any sort, not even the Russians. I am not certain, but the cutoff date was somewhere in the early 90's. If the boat was in EU waters you can avoid the VAT. Good luck.

Hi
There is an article in the Practical Boat Owner magazine December
2002 pages 44 & 45 that covers this subject pretty thoroughly. Copies
are available from the PRO reprint service for £3.50 - However the
article mentiones a company - CE Proof - see www.ceproof.com and/or
www.ce-pro.eu.com/about.htm who can probably help or at least give
you an accurate assessment.
