HUNTER 466 LEFKAS
Hi,

We are a family of sail enthusiasts and considering of buying a used Hunter 466. As we are located in Europe, a CE certificate is needed for registration. I looked into the internet and although the user manual says that there is one, I still cannot find it. Can anybody help me on this? Is there a copy to share if possible? Is there a chance for the boat not to have a CE certification although it's mentioned in the manual?
Also, I cannot find the builder's plate that has the CE mark on it. Does anybody know where it is located?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I think we have to pass on this boat as flag registration can be a challenge. Many thanks in advance! Eleftherios

Welcome to the forum!!

Page 38 of the 466 owner's manual manual Generic Section_Large Boats (sailboatowners.com) says "Your Hunter has been manufactured in the United States and has been certified by the IMCI to be in compliance with the relevant parts of the Recreational Craft Directive 94/25/EC from the European Parliament. The CE mark means your craft means your craft meets or exceeds all current International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards and directives in effect at time of manufacture."

It is an assurance that a boat and its' hardware are designed and manufactured a level of seaworthiness , and that this level will be consistantly maintained. There are 4 catagories: 1. Catagory "A" - "Ocean" (The highest and most seaworthy), Catagory "B" - "Offshore", Catgory "C" - "Inshore"Catagory "D" "Sheltered Waters For additional information, contact International Marine Certification Institute (IMCI) Treves Centre, rue de Treves 45 1040 Brussels, Belgium FX: (32) 2238-7700.

If you obtain information from IMCI on the 466 CE I would appreciate seeing it as a Hunter 46 owner by a new post or message.

Thank you for the reply. I have contacted IMCI and they told me that only the manufacturer can provide this certificate. Also, although the manual mentiones exactly what you posted, on the website of IMCI the Hunter 466 is not included among the certified Hunter models... That's why I am a bit confused. Also, is there a builder's plate located in your boat that has the CE mark on it?

The CE certificate is only good for three years and the IMCI website only displays the current certificate. I noticed this when I went back to check the certificate years after I had initially checked. There was talk on this forum which spurred my interest. The certificate had changed from what I had remembered and it changed to Marlow Hunter. I kept a copy at the time so that I would always have it. The IMCI should be able to give you a copy from the relevant year, I would assume. Personally I think that the CE organization only looks out for themselves. I have attached a copy of what I saved for the 33. Use it and change the data to meet your boat specs. Also change the name from Marlow Hunter to Hunter Marine as that is most likely who built your boat.

Good luck.

Many thanks for the answer. Actually the CE certificate looks like the attached document. Does anybody has a similart copy of the Hunter 466 or 46? If yes, I would appreciate if sharing it. Also, a photo of the builder's plate including a CE mark would help a lot. Many thanks.

From looking around for info on the CE certification process it looks like the certificate itself is only issued to the manufacturer and the manufacturer then issues a declaration of conformity document. (Not sure if this applied when yours was built - this may be a more recent procedure. But is referenced in the document you attached for the 36) I’d try contacting Marlow Hunter to see if the have the info for your particular year in their records.

I have contacted as proposed by the manual them but they weren't very helpful. They advised me to contact Hunter directly. I have sent an e-mail also to Hunter but still no response. That's why my last resort is to contact directly the boat owners but so far nobody answered back that has this document which is strange. It is like it doesn't exist although the manual says it does.

What you are looking for is a plate that will be attached directly to the boat somewhere and looks like this:

I have one somewhere on our 260. I would look in the aft lazarettos, engine compartment etc.

CE reference your looking for is the number below the CE letters. Each year and model will have different plates.

The above is for a 460 from 1999.

I would expect if you asked Marlow-Hunter for a copy of the builders plate for a particular serial number they would be able to provide it. They likely can't provide a generic one

Thank you ALL for your contribution so far. Hunter did reply to me and they send me a generic CE certificate copy. Also, I have asked them to let me know where this builder's plate is exactly located in the boat. Hopefully they will help me out on that as well. In the meantime, if somebody has a photo of the builder's plate or just know exactly where it is located pls share it with me. Many thanks.
