We have a Hunter 25.5 and are strongly considering a CDI FF4 furler. We sail in the midwest on a medium size freshwater lake, winds are usually under 15knots, will use a 150 jib. We are going to roller furling more as a convenience option and to assist in single handing, not necessarily as a sail adjust mechanism. Is the ball bearing option necessary? Is it an advantage?

Go with the bearings

Based on conversations with a several CDI owners at the marina, I decided to include the bearing upgrade when I "converted" last year. The difference in cost is modest. The furling action with the bearings is extremely smooth and easy, a real pleasure especially when single handing. So far, I'm happy with the decision. Good luck. -Ed
