Last year (my first season with the "Joy-Sea")when furling the jib, the jib sheets would wind around the furled jib approximately 3 times. Last week on my first sail for the season, when I furled the jib, the sheets barely made it around the jib once. This afternoon, my second sail for the season, when I went to furl the jib, it would not furl all the way and I was left 4 feet of jib unfurled, which I tied down back at my slip. The roller furling line is not jammed or knotted, it seems that the spool that the line winds around must be moving. Anyone have any idea whats happening? Thanks!

...the furling line stretching. Was it windy, harder to furl, more strech. When you put the head sail up this year did you leave enough of the furling line wrapped around the spool? The spool should be firmly attached to the foil. CDI has a web site, it's on the boat. Going sailing tomorrow, will be at Sailor's Haven alan Got it! http://www.sailcdi.com/

J&B, Sometimes when the furling line winds up
it is all on the axle rather than building up on itself, as in winding up over previous line, thus changing the circumference of the windings and the total length of the line on the spool. Damn, that was a mouthful. You might try pre-winding about 4 to 6 line loops before you even start to pull the jib sheets out. I did this and that was the end of the problem. I'm sure there might be other problems I'm not aware of within your spool but this usually cures the problem. Good luck. Ray S/V Speedy

Maintain Sheet tension
When you haul in your foresail sheets maintain some tension to neatly wrap the foresail. Once done, run the sheets around the wound sail a couple of turns and you should be set. I love the simplicity of the CDI furler. Good Winds. Glenn

That is unusal from your description. The first question is the furling line in the drum. Do you have enough and if not, take sheets out of blocks and turn the drum with sail and sheets counter clockwise to put some furling line back into the drum to counter react the loss of furling line in the spool. the next item to look at is at the bottom of the furler spool. Between the bottom of the turnbuckle stud is a metal bracket that is screwed into the bottom of the furler with two screws. Make sure they are in place.. Finally, the only other thing is to take the mast down and check to make sure the turnbucle within the furling spool is cotter pinned. I suspect the lack of furling line in the spool Crazy Dave Condon

We started with a brand new roller furling genoa. The material was stiff and didn't furl very tightly. As time went on, the material softened up a bit and now it furls more tightly, but also requires more furling line. We also found that it furled more tightly when we furled it in high winds and one we ended up with not enough line to get it in all the way.

I agree with crazy dave
Twice after sailing in high winds and rolling up the jib. The jib has rolled up tighter and I've run out of line on the cdi drum. It is easy to undo the knot on the drum line and hand roll the jib up and retie the line to the drum. Good Luck!

Follow Up To CDI Problem
I went out to Joy-Sea this evening and made a closer inspection of the CDI roller furling. My concern was that the spool itself had separated from the internal forestay. My inspection revealed that the spool was firmly attached to the jib. I removed the R/F halyard (which was quite easy) rotated the jib 3 turns as Crazy Dave suggested, and re-attached the R/F halyard. Everything seems to work ok now. Thanks Everyone! I have a feeling the problem was a combination of sail stretch, line stretch, and as someone very wisely pointed out, the line might have been bunched up and overlapping itself on the spool. This would have effected the number of turns I would have been able to make on the jib. Thanks Again!
