Hi all Hunter owners ...

Thank you all whom sent me replies on Hunter 31 (1984) Cradle measurements ... Someone was kind enought to pass me all details ...

Next question ...

I have a CDI Roller Furling Jib system (1988) installed on my Hunter 31 (1984).

The Furling DRUM (actual Spool furling line coils around) is coming apart! bits and pieces are breaking off outer lip making it difficult to furl and unfurl ...

Does anyone know where one might buy a used or after-market drum that would fit?

CDI does not have replacement parts anymore for my older model ... I think they do offer a complete kit modification for $595 (but this is mainly to go stainless steel (and I simply need a new drum) ...

Any ideas or suggestions would be MOST appreciated?

Anyone knows of any places selling older "used" parts (like this drum) I would really appreciate the advice??

Any help would be most appreciated!

Cheers and happy sailing!

tracking down a replacemnent DROM for my CDI Reefer I furler

email me and I may have some parts from my old CDI furler.
Hi Steve

Thank you for the reply ...

I am trying to find out the exact CDI Furling model I have ...

My headstay length is 47'2" (hand written notes in my manual from original boat owner) ... so this old manual I have that came with the boat says "Reefer I" ....

My CDI furler has the halyard "built-in" to the system (so no external halyard used) ...

From the following CDI weblink http://www.sailcdi.com/sprimain.htm)

I believe my model is 8.75" drum (outer dimensions), Luff type "X" 8/9 model A ....

Any chance you have the full drum replacement?

Please let me know and if you do have a drum replacement, and how much would you sell it for?

Standing by ..

Thank you again for the reply ...

I have the H28.5 and it needed a CDI FF7 drum albeit the coil length was the FF6 size.
The important dimension is the width/clearance of the forestay turnbuckle which must fit thru the drum's center. You can call Tom(owner) at CDI and he will personally help you sort it out. It may even be under warranty. Even for the $ it may be - wouldn't you want parts that you can rely on - especially that part.

By the way- if you got the dimension of the H31 cradle- I'd like to see if it is the same as the H28.5- I had heard they were the same cradle. I'd like to compare.

Re: Update with photos

Thanks Steve for posting the pics ...

That does not look like it would fit my CDI setup sorry to say ...

Thanks for the efforts and replies ...

I just might have to invest in buying the full conversion kit that CDI sells present day (stainless) ...

cheers ..

Hi ...

Thanks for the reply with suggestions ...

As for the Hunter 31 cradle measurements, I will need to put together a diagram from all the individual measurements (... the person sent me 25 pics to go along with detailed measurements) and post it. I have plans to do this some time in Sept so as soon as I have that completed I will share this info with all of you ..

cheers ..

Re: Update with photos

Steve ...

I did a little more digging around on CDI and my last email reply might have been wrong ...

Can you tell me the pics you sent me ... what size boat did this furler come from?

I simply looked at your pics and this looks completely different from my (1988) black plastic drum setup ... but it seems the new (CDI replacement kits) look a lot like yours ... so sorry maybe I spoke too quickly ...

Have a look at this link http://www.sailcdi.com/sailpdf/ckit9_12_403.pdf

Is this actually what you have?? and if so, how much were you looking to sell this drum for?

Again, I would need to see this fits my setup 100% ..... again, I am the CDI Reefer I Luff = X #9 .... not sure how I will find out if your drum will fit my older furling system or not

Please advise ...

This drum came off of a 1994 Hunter Vision 36. If you look at the specs we have a very short forestay.

I think this may be a FF7 or FF9 based on those measurements that I sent you.

I would suggest that you contact CDI and ask them.

Hi Steve ....

I contacted CDI (as you had suggested) and they said your drum unfortunately will not fit my older system ...

Here was what he wrote:

The spool will not work as it is, on your system. Your luff extrusions will probably not fit into the spool, but more importantly, you will need the stainless steel cup and bearing to mount the newer plastic spool to your system.

So, thank you Steve for all the help and efforts to date ... I must say I am sad this did not work out as I am now still faced with an unresolved issue with my CDI Furler I 8/9

I need a new DRUM ..... and hoped to NOT have to shell out $600 bucks to solve this issue! ...

Thanks again for all the help! Sorry this did not work out.

OK .... so is this guy wrong?

I get the feeling CDI rather I be stuck, and buy a new $600 buck unit ...

After already putting some many $$$ into this boat on other items, I was really not looking to drop $$$ on a brand new Furling drum ...

Can I possibly make your system fit (as if I read what CDI said), he seemed to indicate I needed all those other parts (that you have) so am I good to go???

So, How much were you looking to sell the whole unit (that is all the parts I need that CDI says I need) for (if I can get it to somehow fit)?

I have a USA mailbox (in Maine) I could get it shipped to ...

Please tell me the price and I will seriously consider it

Thanks Steve ....
