I have a CDI Flexible Furler and I want to know the best way to rig the bottom of the jib sail to the Furler mechanism. Do you tie a line to the shackle? Looking for some suggestions.

Welcome to the forum!!

Might refer to Flexible Furler 1 manual page 11 or Flexible Furler 2 manual page 10 manual attached on how to attach the jib to the furler.

When the sail is fully hoisted, untie the messenger line. Pass the decored end of the halyard through the halyard shackle on top of spool and finish off with bowline or some half hitches. After taping rope to prevent fraying, cut off the unused decored end. Melt end and remove tape. 4. Tension the luff of the sail with the 1/8” tack tension line, passing two or three parts through the downhaul shackle on spool flange and grommet on sail, and finish off with some half hitches.

On my CDI, I run a line from the sail tack, down to a point on the furler that holds 3 turns of the line, back up through the sail tack, down to the furler again…each time pulling tension on the line to pull down the t…..one last time up through the tack, down to the furler and then tie the line.

i don’t have a good photo, but the CDI website describes it as “lacing it”…

I have found that if I pull it too tight, it makes the drum harder to turn. My old CDI has no bearings, so if I tighten it too tight, it binds the 2 pieces of the drum.
