Hi, I have a new CDI furler and need to cut it. Anyone know what size it's suppose to be? The instructions are rather vague. Thanks, Tim Pinkham

Call CDI

If you have a question on something as important as how to cut luff, call CDI 978-922-2322. The problem in asking such a specific question on a forum is you may get an answer from someone who knows nothing about the subject, or even worst they know about a FF4 and you have a FF6. I am installing a FF6 and the instructions on "page 5, To assemble 1." says to cut the total luff 17" shorter than the pin to pin length of the forestay (they even have a drawing of the pin to pin dimension "L" so there would be no mistake." What I don't understand is what the "total" means, does it include the luff top fitting? Real test is you have to be able to raise the luff to get to the turnbuckle adjustment (hence the 17".)

Gene's right...

I actually had my rigging guy do my CDI, as I was worried about cutting the luff too short, or screwing up a fitting. CDI should be able to help you, but you are going to need to provide them a very accurate measurement of your headstay. Let us know how it goes! Rob p.s. - was that a veiled Pink Floyd reference??

Thanks.

Thanks Gene, I bought the furler through Catalina Direct and assumed it would arrive pre-cut. I noted the instructions but my old furler and stay are apart so determining the "L" is not an option. I would have thought this dimension would be fairly standard. I hoped to do this over the weekend but there is no support available through CD on Saturday. Thus the post here. Thanks, Tim PS Rob you're showing your age.

Called CDI

I spoke with Joe from CDI and he explained the whole process to me. FOr a standard rig the proper size is 31'10" minus 17". However, he recommended cutting it a little longer to be more flexible with different sails. He said racers may want something longer. I plan to cut mine to 30'10". I'm glad I called. Joe was extremly helpful. Thanks, Tim
