Pendant line replacement
ADR, You are going need to get at the centerboard. This involves letting the board down enough to disconnect the pendant line from the trailing edge of your centerboard. My centerboard has a 1/4" hole in it where a shackle pin at the end of the pendant line hooks to it. Yours may be different. You may have a 1" hole in your board with smaller hole for a cable to enter it and terminate inside the 1" hole via a combination three strand rope to metal cable. You don't know until you can look at it. It's pretty hard to do if the boat is in the water unless you have SCUBA gear. If the boat is on stands at the boatyard, you're going to need to get at the keel somehow. Is the pendant line still connected to the centerboard, or has it parted? Is the boat in the water, or is it on stands? If the boat is on stands, can you get the yard crew to expose the keel so that you can get the board down a couple of feet? There's a guy in Assonet Ma. who has whatever you need for it, but I think that you ought to check it out first so that you can get the right pendant line for it. I'll give you his link. Joe

diggin a hole
Thanks Joe I had a feeling I was at least digging a hole. I was concerned that I might have to remove the pin to get at the connection. I have an '81 25fter and the line parted at the end of last season. Here on the south shore of Long Island the bay tends to be shallow, to say the least, and we discovered that in conditions like this it is the rudder will most likely hit bottom before the keel. This can be costly if after "a few good hits" the rudder need to be replaced. One preventative modification is to trim the rudder at the bottom just above the keel line or cut the notch and lower the pintails. The latter method has the benefit of raising the tiller to get more leg room in the cockpit. Thanks again ADR

Centerboard Repair
Any information would be appreciated on locating the centerboard pin for my O'Day 23. The board has seperated on the trailing edge and requires repair. The pin is covered with the original gelcoat. The boat is a 1979 model. Thx much.

Joe, Do you know if the rudders Rudy sells now are also foam filled? I was thinking I read or heard somewhere He had modified the rudders he is selling now? I know my rudder is a replacement bought from him by the previous owner. Oh and that picture of your kick up rudder it looks like you need to buy those kids some more ride on toys. Looks like they have nothing to do. Ha Ha.

Rudder blades
Keith, Rudy started making solid rudders back in the mid 1990s when I bought mine off him. They're all solid rudders as far as I know. If that guy got it from Rudy, it's a solid rudder blade. The foam filled blades have a seem all the way around. This seem is most prominent at the top of the rudder. All those toys are for the grandchildren when they come over to play each week, all five of them on different days. If you think that's bad, you should see our toy room in the house. The oldest one is six years old and my wife enjoys taking care of them every week. This is what happens when you get old. The wife stays home and takes care of grandchildren, and wind up going sailing with your dog. Joe
