Thanks Ron

That isn't a routine maintenance item. Not sure about the post to which you referred but dropping the keel is usually only done when you have a problem - do you have one?

I see you have an O'Day 23 which has an internal lead keel. As such there are no keel bolts or caulking to the outside of the hull. External keels are used on wooden boats, larger glass boats and some smaller glass boats. Wooden boats are flexible and as such the bolts need to be periodically snugged up, you would only re-caulk if the old caulk is failing or the keel /keel bolts need to be removed for some reason. As Don says this is not a routine maintenance item.

I have removed and reinstalled a couple of keels, it's not difficult but does require access to a hoist and blocking gear that you can tie up for a extended period of time.

Happy Sailing and enjoy your O'Day 23

Sorry I missed that, and having a 79 O'Day I wasn't familiar with the construction of the 72. I agree with Don this is not routine maintenance but seeing as it is sailed in salt water and is a new boat for Ron I would at least check the condition of the keel bolts and snug them up. That is assuming it is an external keel.

Scott thanks for pointing that out.
