Portlights

I believe the ome was dow corning 795, a very tenacious silicone seal. Remove gently, and bring a razor blade to cut away the sealant that has not failed. Do NOT fight with this sealant, as you will break the parts. I believe that this material is available from Hunter Marine. Call them after the weather down there has stabilized, and I'm sure they can inform you as to tooling , cleanup, etc. Hope this helps, Jim

Push in, not out.

The outside ring is trim. The inside ring ia a molded part of the portlight with the spigot(frame that sticks through the hole). See picture. The outside trim ring will be very difficult to remove. But you can buy new ones if you break one(Related Link). Once you remove one you will see the silicone caulk(if still original). If you find the coring in the perimeter to be wet you will want to remove the portlight and let the frame dry before recaulking. You might even want to mix up some epoxy resin and seal the perimeter before reinstalling. If the coring and frame seem OK you could just add more silicone caulk. I found mine to still be pliable after 25 years. Add a lot so that it squeezes out after replacing the trim ring. Do not tighten or clean until it has set up. Then tighten and trim excess after it has hardened a bit. There really is no need to caulk on the inside. If you have water coming out from under the inside frame it is coming from one of two places. One is obvious, under the outside frame. The second would be through the coring from somewhere on top of the cabin trunk. Suspects are mast step, hatches, hardware, and handrails. Good luck.
