Catches for cockpit lockers

Having recently read the rather exhilarating "heavy weather sailing" by Adlard Coles, I've decided it's about time I fitted proper catches to allow me to lock down the cockpit locker hatches.
The port and starboard lockers should be easy enough, but for the lazarette, the only option I can think of would be turnbuttons- does anybody use something a bit neater than this?

That is a great book.
My aft cockpit locker looks like it might use the original hasp type fitting.
If I ever get out to sea, I will probably put some type of carabineer through the eye to
make sure the hasp stays closed. -Tim
