Headed off to BVI's next week, picking up a 42' catamaran for a week long bareboat. Has anybody sailed a cat? Any suggestions? I can only assume sail trim and handling and reefing will be about the same as my H376. But if anybody can offer help I'll take it. Bob F.

You should have no problem with sailing the 42 foot cat. I have chartered 38 footers in the BVI with no problem and I too sail a 376. The only time I reefed was once when the winds got up over about 25 kts and we had green water on the foredeck - thought that might be a little excessive for the boat. They don't point as well, but who cares when you can sail at 14 to 15 kts! Have fun. Doug Merrill s/v Dream Catcher

something else

After sailing a Lagoon 37 here in New England and the Virgins, the only thing to look out for is, when you tack, you'll find you have to backwind the jib just a tad to get the boat through the eye of the wind. I'll bet you'll love the speed! (and the space below decks). Bring me back some rum!
