The admiral has been trying to remove the cabin cushion covers for cleaning. Can anyone out there tell her how to remove the covers? They appear to have a clasp or similar holding the buttons to the foam inside through to the button on the underside. I am pretty sure these are the original cushion covers. Ken

Ken, Those buttons have a string between them

She can press down on the foam and pull the button and snip the string. then she can pull the string out and unzip the cover and pull the foam out. Putting the foam back into the cover is another problem.

cleaning cushions

I have taken off the covers without the buttons and washed them in the tub and in the washing machine on gentle. Just don't dry them in the dryer. I have used a rental carpet/upholstry cleaner on the ones with buttons and they cleaned up fine. Tip-put baby powder in the covers or on the foam when putting the foam cushions back in. They go back in easier. Helps with the smell too.

On my prior Catalina, I faced the same problem. I did as the others say and just cut the string that holds the button. I removed the covers and washed twice on gentle and air dried. It actually was not to difficult to re-install the covers...I did use some powder. I could not figure a way to get the buttons back on like the original ans was concerned that it would not look "right". My fabric was a loose weave and you could not see the remaining button hole....the covers looked so much better that it wouldn't have mattered amnyway. One other suggestion is to clean your foam...it removed the built up odors and made all the difference for the admiral. One way to do it is, fill up a kiddie pool with water and 1 gallon of bleach. Toss in a coule cushions and walk on them to completly saturate, let sit 10 minutes then remove, prop them up on something to drain and air dry for a couple days... Best of luck, Stephen
