In the middle of 1988 Catalina stopped using the wooden insert in the bilge
between the top layer of fiberglass and the keel stub that lead to the Catalina smile.

On a 1988 Catalina 30 is there a way to tell if you have the wooden insert or solid glass?

Possibly the hull number when the change happened, or is there some distinct change you can just look at?

Was it changed at the same time the wood mast compression post was changed to metal? Hull 5398.

Thanks

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Why not contact Catalina and ask what hull number started the new lay-up. Other than that, you can check with catalina owners association.

As Bad O said check with Catalina. They keep build sheets on file for every boat built. If they don't have an answer the only real way to know is to drill a few small test bores into the keel stub from inside the boat. If you hit sawdust or wood you'll know. Once done fill the holes with epoxy..

Your lucky day.....

Yours should be the 2nd boat without wood in the keel stub.

I had asked Catalina Yachts before I bought our C30...KenT @ Catalina yachts responded with:

Here is the email I received below.

Not sure when the compression post was changed to steel, mine is #5419 and has the wood post.
