Catalina Script Logo DIY

Fellow 22 owners,
I have seen in the past that it has been difficult to find the original script logo for our boats.
I just wanted to point out that there is an STL file out there that you can download for free and create your own, provided you have a 3D Printer.
The STL file is not to scale and the logo is a little smaller that the original but that can be fixed through modification of the scale.
If you have any questions on where to find this file, or the printer I used to make it please let me know.
I hope this helps anyone like me who has had this issue.

How smooth did the sides work out ? I tried this a few years ago when 3d printing was less common and the sides needed sanding and a bunch of prep before it looked like the original, so temporarily abandoned the project.

Fwiw there are 2 different logos depending on year, and the sides of the lettering on one were beveled.

Heres the logo as used on my 87 new design. I have a 2d vector file and 3d file somewhere.

The sides are smooth. And the print looks good. (Aside from the minor cleanup) The sides on my originals are beveled. This new print is not. However, I can modify the G-Code to do a filament change and add yellow to the top of the print. also, I have downloaded Fusion 360 from Auto Desk. (Free) I may be able to modify even further to produce the beveled sides. Its still a work in progress but it was nice to know that it could be done at home.

Out of curiosity, what material did you use for the logo ? Is the material UV resistant ?
I planned on painting mine, regardless of the uv stability of the plastic. Had to do it anyhow to get the shiny face and 2 colours. Could obviously be done in various materials including metal.

Mr. Johnstone,
I used PLA to check the scale and accuracy. PLA is not a UV resistant material. I will go with ABS or PETG once I get the scale corrected.

Yeah. Would work for the top colour instead of painting it. The ones on my boat appear to have been a metal like top coating for colour.

What printer and mods are you using ?
I need to make some injection molds for rubber weather stripping pieces for a vehicle restoration.

My buddy's printer we tried a couple years ago left ridges from the layers.

I can check the settings when I get home today. I made no modifications to the file though. Worked out pretty good.

Not mods to the file.. Mods to the printer. More than a few home 3d printers can be radically improved with somewhat simple modifications.

I will see if i can find the files for the logo i have and post them here.

Only mods I did to the printer was an upgrade to the extruder, (all metal) and printed some parts such as filament guide and fan covers. All pretty much stock Ender3. Oh, new "Capricorn" bowden tube and tube holders also.

for those with destroyed extruded names on pre 86 boats, I took mine off the 83 and replaced with a vinyl decal that looks just like the original. Left side has slightly crooked numbers but that is my bad, right side looks good, I have the decal on file locally and can get others made if anybody needs them.
