Catalina Owners,
This is an UPdate from Count Ferrari regarding the All Catalina Rendezvous at Roche Harbor on the first weekend in May 5-8, 2016.
We should be able to find more boats so circulate this missive to all Catalina owners you know.
We have 23 boats so far, with at least 11 from BC.
Question for all attendees:
Does anyone have a projector that can be hooked to a laptop to project photos and such? I would be happy to give my slide show of sailing around Vancouver Island in 2010. It takes about 40 minutes plus questions and answers.
Point to note about Customs:
They would prefer you to arrive before 4:30 or so if you need to talk with them at the dock. I know several of you have the call-in clearance thing going but this is for those who are arriving in the USA on that first day of the gathering. You can call in from your cell phone if you might be late, I think, and they will wait but if you can get there by the usual time then all is better.
Facility:
Roche Harbor provides us with a fabulous party tent, complete with tables, chairs, garbage, BBQs and lights. They have a grocery, spa, clothing outlet, fuel dock, customs and restaurants. VERY complete.
Costs:
We are trying something new in the door prizes. If each boat can bring a prize to turn in to be awarded for the BINGO that would be great so every boat can get a prize.
The dock fees are still at pre-season rates. A 42' boat will pay around $38 a night which includes power, garbage, tent use, and wifi.
Schedule: Very tentative at this point. Please send in suggestions on what you would like to hear about in a presentation.
Thursday:
Arrive and braced for 'Appy' Hour with potluck snacks and drinks starting around 4 PM in the party tent (or sooner if desired...). Hopefully you will get lots of assistance docking with line handlers galore.
Friday:
Later arrivals show up and we all have a full day to explore and take in a couple of presentations (TBD)
Disc golf outing on Friday most likely.
A disc golf seminar and exploratory round for all interested persons will take about a 3-4 hour bite out of our leisure time. All interested parties are encouraged to do a bit of research at www.pdga.com and look about at discs, courses, techniques, etc... Spare discs will be available. Roche Harbor has an excellent 18 hole course tucked up by the end of the airport. There are many courses in the Gulf Islands that make this a very fine sport to take UP.
Model boats? The Count will show off his model Viking ship. Any one else should bring what they have for a bit of play in the bay and show and tell.
Saturday:
Pot Luck Dinner at 6:30 in party tent. Followed by BINGO (brought to us from the flatlands of Alberta) to determine prizes to be awarded.
Activities and seminars still to be determined, however there are a couple activities one can be sure of.
The intricacies of winch maintenance will once more take about an hour to demonstrate as put on by Count Enrico.
A tender show and tell: (This would be a pre dinner function) A Dink Parade around the bay with decorated dinks, (DOW, Depending On Weather). Themes are still elusive for this, suggestions are encouraged. It could be Friday DOW...
There could also be a relay 'race' with teams if there is interest. All dinks that would haul 2 or more bodies could be used. Teams would be selected from those who enter and register at the party tent. Ideas accepted for this event.... NOT locked in stone.
Sunday:
Departures and morning snacks
