catalina owners, your view

Shopping,
for a catalina 30 and here's the main question:
1. Is a westerbeke 12c two underpowered
for an 81 Catalina?
Sailing the mid-coast maine waters, tides, it seems so to me?
2 . Generally the Catalina 30 is "characterized" as a boating version of a "MINI-VAN" by some.
Comments from the owners: , should i buy a 1981-1984
mini van, guys?
I will use the boat to coastal cruise Maine & the maritimes, and eventually down to Florida and the caribbean; bahamas etc.
I "read" that maybe i'd need a more sturdy boat?

Steve - Try reposting your question in "Ask all Sailors" or better yet go to the Catalina section and post it there. I think you will get a better response.
