Helllo everyone,

I placed an order with Cat. Direct on this past Sunday evening for a new keel lifiting kit, wire rope etc.
It took them till late today (Wed.) to send me a tracking link and the delivery date is July 7th.

I did not anticipate such a long timeframe, so I have already removed the old wire rope and now I wait for the parts.

Are they generallly a bit slow to get orders shipped?

This is the first time I ordered with this company.

Thanks for any input,

Bruce

Unless you pay for expedited shipping, that is normal for them. They are also unresponsive to email too.

If the item is in stock they get it to me within a couple days, if backordered they usually notify of delay, last week they called minutes after I placed an order to tell me it would take longer.
I am in California, so it's probably a little faster here.

I have not been disappointed with their service. It may be that they are swamped with orders at this time.

I always feel like I am waiting an eternity for sailing related items. It doesn't help that I usually hem and haw ("research") for a couple of days before I pull the trigger on an order. I am in NY so I'm selective in what I order from CD.

I live in New Brunswick Canada and have had nothing but good from CD. Stuff usually ships in a day or two and if there are any questions they call me. Has saved me a bad choice or two and has assured them in a couple situations that I knew what was what and they were sending the right stuff to me. Even using USPS (which I prefer due to courier brokerage charges...ack) I get my stuff at the door within 2 weeks of ordeing...usually sooner.

The answer is yes, it does seem slow. A couple days to pull and ship the order, and snail mail for another week. I am now accustomed to a 10 day wait, makes me happy if it is early. It's worth the wait though.

We've had great service from Catalina Direct and find them very thoughtful and helpful when talking to them on the phone. I recently made an order via internet in the evening, got notification via email that it was received and preped for shipping the next day and notice from UPS that it was enroute, scheduled for 3 days later. We got delivery as scheduled.

I would say slow service is the exception and would urge you to keep an open mind. Everyone I have ever had conversations with seem to care alot about each item of each purchase, which I think is increasingly rare..

This morning I received a replacement package from CD in response to a conversation that I had with them on Monday... today is Friday. Was charged regular shipping. I am impressed and find this to be their norm. Hope thiis gives some perspective.

I just bought my 87 C-22 - a friend down the old dirt road has a C-22 also - he recommended Catalina Direct to me to use if needed - says that he has been pleased with their service - I called Catalina Direct today to touch bases with a few starting questions - found them to be very very helpful, taking much time to fill me in with many areas of their services offered and a tec support ph if and when needed - I have already spent some monies on my new to me boat - I understand the thought of having to wait on anything - especially regarding my boat parts needed --- "the waiting is the hardest part" new member from San Diego mountains --- Mountainman

Everything I've bought from them has come in a very timely fashion. But I honestly couldn't tell you an exact time frame but has been as fast or faster than anon else I've ordered anything from excluding gandermoutain that for some reason seems to get here like in 2 days from ordering.

West marine is another good store I've had luck with.

I've had a few orders come in very quickly and then a few orders that took a few days longer than I figured, but usually if it is on my doorstep within a week with standard shipping I am very happy.

I just ordered some stuff from them on Mon. I'm in the local area (about 40 miles away) and it was going to get to me by Thur or Fri!! I talked with the rep and depending what you order, they might have to build it. I order a new backstay and so they had to build it and that was going to take 24-48 hrs for it to be built. Now since I need it by Friday, I'm going to pick it up at the shop since I want to make sure I get it.

Now the stuff I ordered the week prior I got within 2 days business days, so it just depends what you order.

Hey I ordered a midship cleat for a 34 (or any 1 1/4" track) 14th Nov 11 and still waiting.
I realise I am in Australia but hey, I almost could have walked back with it by now.
My options were $9+ or $120+ .... I have had internet orders from the US before but not more for postage than part ordered!!!
cheers
Tony

Good and Bad

I have refitted a C30 mostly with parts from CD. Most come quickly some parts take many months. The worst example was a part ordered on July 3ed arrived on January 22.

Catalina Direct is our best source for parts and information. But, I too have had a love/hate relationship with them. My biggest disappointment is that on a given weekend I work on the boat and determine that a part is needed, but if ordered then, it won't arrive until after the next weekend goes past. Also, some of the folks there do not seem to have any boating or boat repair experience and are dismissive or unknowledgable about technical questions or issues

Some companies simply don't do email well. I've heard this issue so many times...

The telephone can be your friend. Might be a way to communicate that's going out of style, but it's still there for you.

totally agree with Stu, these folks are wonderful and I have found my phone conversations very satisfying. They really do care and do the best they can. Each order is individual and some need to be manufactured ....some are on the shelves....
I love working with them.;)

I have had great luck with CD over the years. I am in upstate NY and if they have it in stock I will see it in 7-10 days.
