Catalina cushions

We are the happy new owners of a 1988 Catalina 30 TR. Our plans are to upgrade the boat, however she is in pretty fair shape now. We expect to have many questions to enter on this forum,and the archives have been a great help.  The cushions throughout our boat are serviceable, but not an asset to the nice interior. We would like to get some advice about the best way to recover. I have been unable to get info on factory replacements, and wonder about the cost as well as the selection. What would be a reasonable cost for the job by a custom shop? We just sailed our boat home some 90 miles from the upper Keys in 15+ knots both inside the reef, and the Gulfstream and were very pleased with the performance.I had reservations about the old Hood furler, and have been thinking replacement,, but it did function OK. A couple of years ago, I was considering replacing the cushions on my '79 Catalina 25. The Catalina Factory quoted me $950 for the complete set of 12 cushions. The Catalina 30 probably does not have that many more cushions, so the price is probably not much more than what I was quoted. You have to send your existing cushion upholstery to the factory so they can measure and duplicate it.

Go with Catalina

I can confirm what Larry says. Deal direct with Catalina and you will get a very nice set of covers for your foam. A few years ago I sent the old covers from my 25’ to Catalina. I had to settle for a choice between a few excellent up-to-data fabrics, but – OK. I sent the old covers and received replacements that fit perfectly and IMO were superior to the options I had been given by local shops. Choose your timing, it will take a while, but I think Catalina is the best source for Catalina boats.Dennis ThomasS/V Anodyne

Good advise

The advise seems excellent. I called the sales desk at Catalina, and got a quote of $1520 for covers alone, and about $2200 for covers and foam. I am waiting to recieve samples of the cloth to make a choice.  Thanks Ron Brassord
