My wife and I are shopping for a larger live aboard and have been eyeing Catalina 42s as a good value option. My problem is that I'm 6'5" and need an adequate length berth to accommodate us. The c42 seems to have the basics we need but I'm concerned that the 2 cabin option pullman or centerline may not be sufficient. I wondered if any of you may be a little stretched and could comment on your experiences on these boats.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Catalina Yachts has improved their website significantly and I just found this: they have published archive brochures of their earlier yachts. What a great idea!!!

You can easily scale off the berth lengths by printing out the plan from the BROCHURE and comparing the berth lengths with any other yacht measurement. It's called "scaling" in engineering terms. If the 42'-x" yacht length is, say 12 inches, then you can figure out any other measurement by using this as a "scale."

Good luck. It's either that or shrink, right? :)

Nice boats.

Hey Carl

We're looking at the 42 as well. I'm a piddling 6'3" and fit well in the Pullman.

Good luck!

Thanks Dave, happy hunting to you too.

I'm just going to have to find one that I can poke around in a little and see how it fits.

I've got a Pullman 3 cabin and I'm 6'5" and love it. I've got plenty of headroom. The v berth shower is a bit low but oh well. I only loose sleep when on the hook and it's windy because I drew the short straw and sleep closer to the mast so I hear the wind and the forgotten loose halyard.
