Catalina 400 Sunset Beach, N C
I bought a new Catalina 400 MK II(hull#233) and took delievery in May 2001. I have the standard wet cell batteries that came with the boat and I think they are going bad. I also have a Heart Interface, Freedom Marine 20 Inverter/charger, 2000 watts/ 100 Amp charger with a Xantrex Link 1000 panel. I thought my charger was over charging since my batteries started boilng but I think my batteries are going after almost 4 years of use. I am requesting some comments from Catalina 400 owners on Water vs Gel vs golf cart batteries. I understand the golf cart batteries have more storage and are lighter. However, do they have too much height to fit in the battery well? I also heard if you over charge gel batteries the are cooked and gone. Thanks for you comments. William T. Allen "NanSea"

Set The Battery Charge Rate

William, Just remember to set you Heart Inverter / Charger to the correct battery type if you change to different type. You may also want to reset the Heart Inverter / Charger setting as to the number of amp hours in your house bank. Both of these settings can be managed using your Link 1000. See link below. PS: I have Trojan 6 volt T105 batteries on my Catalina 34 and have found them to be bullet proof. Good Luck, Dave
