I just launched my boat last week, and alas no hot water. The engine seems to be running slightly hotter than last year, it now runs at 180 degrees at 2200 rpm. Last year it ran at 165 degrees. I was wondering if maybe my thermostat is stuck closed. has anyone run into this problem?

No HoT Water!

Is yours an engine generated hot water system or a seperate hot water heater. If it is a hot water heater, you need to run water through the heater before turning on the heaters switch. Othewise you can burn out the coils.

Just some thoughts on why running hotter

Could your intake stainer be clogged, not allowing the proper amount of water in to cool the engine?? The impeller blades may not be pushing enough water (might need changing)?? Low on engine coolant, or there is an air pocket/lock in the cooling system (requiring the system to be bled)?? Roc

Impeller taken a set?

I had a similar problem on my C-30. The impeller looked fine upon visual inspection, but when I removed it, it was clear that the blades had taken a "set". As you know, the pump chamber is eccentric in shape, causing the impeller blades to bend and unbend as the shaft rotates. In mine, the rubber hardened over the winter and the bent blades stayed bent, reducing the effectiveness of the pump. You could check this without removing the impeller by "bumping" starter to rotate the engine while the pump is open, watching to see if each blade flexes properly. You also might want to try back-flushing the raw water path with a hose. It wouldn't take much constriction to go from 165 to 180. If you need to replace the impeller, don't pull the pump shaft from the pump. You may damage the rear pump seal. Either remove and replace the impeller with the pump and shaft in place or remove the pump from the engine.
