I have a 1996 Cataline 36MKII
I have 2 4D batteries for the house bank and 1 reserve/ starting battery.

All batteries are shot.

I want to replace the 2 4D batteries with 4 of the Duracell Golf Cart batteries from Sam's.

Does anyone know if these batteries will fit in the existing battery tray? If not, then could I remove the tray and just put them in 4 of the single-sized black battery boxes?

Also, I am away from the boat and can't remember what kind of charger I have. Will the same charger still work, or will I have to change some settings on it?

Stan, the charger will still work, but if it is old, is it a three stage charger? Most likely with a Mark II, but unless you tell us what it is we can't really say.

As far as placement, have you discussed this with the great skippers over on the www.C36ia.org board (forum)? IIRC, they have this discussion every few months

Many of us are "regulars" both here and on our own Catalina Association "one-design" message boards. One of my friends with a C36 put in six golf carts in front of the galley, instead of the starboard hole.

Good luck, they will fit.

Stan,
I think they will fit in the exisiting battery tray, but I would advise you to check the "height" of the new 6V batteries for clearance in that starboard location before you go further.
