Hi Folks... Just a quick update... -Catalina has orders to hull #97... there bouts maybe more by now.. -Over 12 Catalina 350 models were sold at the Annapolis Boat Show. - Please e-mail: Catalina350@mail.Com to be on the list to join the Owners Association. Because it is a new model boat, I am starting a national Association of owners, then over time we will break it down to regional fleets. Already have tremdous discounts available on all marine electronics and other accessories for 350 owners. -I have Hull #3 which was put in the water in July. My schedule has prevented me from really getting any "regular" use of the boat till now. It continues to impress me both in it's sailing performance and comfort both above and below the deck. I single handed the boat last week... What a "breeze". That's it for now. Would love to hear from other 350 owners regarding their experience with the 350 thus far right here on this site. An owners forum will be up on the "Official" 350 web site as soon as I get around to ochestrating it!! - Capt'n Andy

Discounts

Hi and thanks for your response. All the best with your new Catalina 350. Where is your port? RE DISCOUNTS: Basically, I learned that by having some of the electronics installed after market, I saved thousands (yes THOUSANDS not thousand) of dollars. My boat came with Ray marine ST60 Wind, Speed, Depth, & ST5000+ AutoPilot. I had originally ordered the RL70CRC+ chartplotter/radar from the factory. After seeing the price I took it off in a split second (two station from dealer aftermarket was still about $9000). After the boat came in, I started investigating less expensive alternatives. I had the RL70CRC and Radome installed thousands of dollars less than dealer and factory quotes. The boat is now "fully equipped" for more extensive safe passage making. It was a somewhat of a hassel getting all of the quotes and package deals out there. But, it is done and I am one happy boat owner with several thousand more dollars in the bank than I would have had. So, after I went through it all, I decided to get a dealership that includes just about every name brand boat afternarket item you could think of from electronics to well.. whatever. I am making this "dealership" part of the 350 Owners Association. E-mail me at catalina350@mail.com and tell me what you are looking for. I will get you a price and have the appropiate factory wharehouse ship it to you in just a few days. All equipment is still under full factory warrantees tech support and so forth. If I had paid more attention to the option prices, even the $262 Microwave for a $100 or less microwave! I would have most likely put the RayMarine 6001+ or 7001 and 150/400 corpak and fluxgate compass system and remote control on my boat for the same price or even less than I paid for the 5000+ from Catalina! (I do like the 5000+ though as it is very adaquate for the C-350 not to be misunderstood here..) So, that's about it. Even if you get everything factory installed (which there is valid argument for), It might be interesting for you to compare just for the heck of it. All the best, Capt'n Andy

Offering this deal to other owners

Andy: Just bought a used C36 and I probably will need some new equipment as I will refurbush the boat. Can other owners purchase this equipment from you? How much mark up are you adding?

Offering deal to other Catalina model owners

Hi Chic and thanks for your e-mail. Sure would be glad to provide dealer pricing to you as well. I'll tell you what. I will take the price right out of my "dealer manual" for the equipment you want and provide it to you without any mark up on my part. Then We will put a little something in it for me. We can start a "Support Andy's New Bussiness Association" too! You will know exactly what the price of each item is, the gross invoice and then what ever we decide to put in for me. How much we put in for me? I don't know. What ever you think is fair I guess. Maybe I can actually make a go of this supplying Catalina owners around the world with absolutley rock bottom pricing on name brand equipment ranging from hardware to sophisticated electronics shipped directly from the Manufacture's distribution warehouse.. Who knows.. Look out West Marine right??... (I'll bet many large retailers in various industries have had even stranger begginings no??) Anyway, let me know what you think and give me a project to work on. All the best to you, Andy

I have Hull #19. It was trucked on 31 July and we plashed on 2 August. This was the first 350 on San Francisco bay and we have been having great fun on it for the past two months. I get out most every weekend, except when the boat was featured in the fall boat show at Jack London Square in Oakland. We have had it out in everything from 10knts to 28knts and the boat sails great. I have the in mast furling and really love the flexibility it offers. We have been able to hit 8+ knots on a regular basis. I have not single handed the boat yet but I think that it will be easy enough to do. I had the electric winch installed and sail handling is a breeze. One problem that we are looking at is that the electric winch has a adverse effect on the autopilot. Most disconcerting with you are raising the sails and the boat decides to make a 90 degree turn. I think we need to move the flux gate compass. Mark catalina350@earthlink.net

Catalina 350

Hi Andy, I like your idea to organize an assosation for the Cat.350. I just purchased hull number 41. Right now the radar RL70CRC and autopilot 5000 are being installed by the Catalina dealer. I am interested in installing davits and a lift for the motor. Do you have any recommendations for make and/or models? I was surprised the boat doesn't come standard with a cockpit table. Any idea where to get one from a retailer? Please send any general recommendations for this vessel. Thank you - Mark

If I understand correctly, you just spent over $100,000 for a new boat and you're asking about why it didn't come with a cockpit table? Didn't you ask? Why were you surprised? How dare you! If I was your dealer, I would be very thankful that you took deilvery, and left. You always have the usual recourse, your lawyers. It's very unfortunate that people invest great sums of $ and then blame someone else for their own limitations. Read a catalog.

Check out the Edson online catalog, they make a folding table that will attach to the pedestal that catalina installs on the C350. It comes in 2 models, really expensive and pretty expensive. Enjoy your new boat........ and ignore that other Mark guy.

Electronics on the 350

Geez Mark stop being so nasty. Anyway I saved many thousands in buying my electronics aftermarket namely from West Marine. I have the CRC 70 color radar with chartplotter, ST 60 wind, and Autohelm 5000 with remote. I purchased the radome, TV anteanna, VHF, Stereo/CD player and DVD all at the same time. I saved sales tax by buying in Delaware, I saved 10% by buying over a set amount(a sale). I saved another 10% by using their credit card and got a $400 dollar rebate from Raytheon and $350 Advantage dollars I am still using up. All that cost less than $6000. I paid Tidewater Marina to install. It takes a woman to shop like that! So men ask your wife to do it. I had the boat out for three weeks in September and I single handed two of those weeks. I went from Havre deGrace Maryland and got as far south as Solomens visiting lots of places in between and having a great time. I had no problem singlehanding. For the other question about davits, I installed Kato davits and a Garhauer lifting system for the outboard. I have some tweeking to do with the davits that is being done now but everything was easily handled by this one women alone so I think a man can do it too. See you out there.

You can always order the standard cockpit table

from the Catalina factory and put it in yourself
