Has anyone insulated the engine compartment on a Cat 320 for sound? What type material, where the best place to buy, and how to install? Also how heavy is it(I've heard some are really heavy with lead sheeting and what are the final results, satisfied?

Joe, Defender catalog - defender.com is where I got the heavy lead lined stuff I used. It adds quite a bit to the weight of the covers. I secured it with screws and large washers others have use 5200. I did use 5200 on the refrigerator side of the engine compartment for fear of compromising the insulation. I needed 2 of the 12sq ft ?(i think) kits with some left over. Absolutly worth it. Although not measured, it sounds like, and that's all that matters, a 100% improvment over the terrible clatter before installation. Stan "Christy Leigh" c320 #656

works well

I also insulated my 320. I used the good stuff with the lead lining. Bought it at the marine store. Cut it to fit inside the shell around the motor and glued it on with that spray-on stuff. Then taped all the edges with the metal foil tape you can get at hardware stores. It works fine and sticks as well. There is of coarse still noise but much better....one can talk and be heard....Do it!.......RG.
