Owners of Catalina 320 I had to repair the wiring to my bilge pump today and for the first time I removed the cabin sole. I found what people have been telling me about the bilge system. does anybody have a fix for all that water? Thanks Jack

C-320 bilge

Well, one assumes you bought an older 320 prior to the additon of a bilge pocket. I had hull # 84 with the shallow flat bilge. First things is since you got the floor boards up get a wet/dry vacuum and suck out that water. Next try to figure out the sources of the water into the bilge and eliminate it. On my boat the only source of water was from the AC and refrigerator condensation. I had a PSS shaft seal which eliminaed that source. On the C-320 web site it list a whole bunch of things you can do to elevate the problem. The C-320 is a great boat and I was reluctant to trade up but then I found a better boat in the C-380.

Bilge of C 320

I read an article about this problem on the first 320's. Fitting baffles in the bilge was one way around the problem of the water sloshing back & forth. I agree with Mike Meece. Put in a PYI PSS shaft seal and your bilge will be dry!

I own a 1995 C320 with the shallow bilge. The so-called "bilge problem" is greatly exaggerated and is easily resolved with the addition of the PSS shaft seal for about $200 or by simply keeping the thru-hull fitting properly adjusted. I do the latter and find that very little water gets into the shallow bilge pocket. It is no problem. Some C320 owners have gone to the dripless packing system with good results also.
