We currently sail a C25 but are thinking about switching to a C30. Is their performance about the same?
Thanks for your input.

I have owned both boats & they are really hard to compare to each other.
The C-30 may just look like a bigger version of the C 25 but they are quite different boats. Most of the C 25 came with a swing keel & are rather tender boats that will round up easily in a stiff gust of wind. You cannot stand up in a C 25 unless the pop top is opened in the cabin. But they are a good compromise for a trailer - sailor.

The C-30 weighs literally twice as much as the C 25. The weight of the C 25 equals the weight of the ballast alone of the C 30. The C30 can perform well up to about 12 - 15 knots of wind without reefing the sails. The C 25 would be a bit overwhelmed at that wind speed. The C 30 is a much more solid feel under sail, & really gives a big boat performance & durability. The C 25 feels a bit flimsy, due to the light weight constraints of the build quality to make her trailerable. The cost of ownership is definitely less in the C 25, unless you have swing keel issues. The C 30 is by no means perfect, but gives very respectable performance under sail. She's is an older design, meant to have a big jib, small main upwind & a spinnaker rigged for downwind performance.
She is a boat that you can daysail or cruise for a week or more & not wind up hating sleeping overnight in. The forward berth is over 6 feet long, the head room is 6 ft. 3" so you don't feel totally cramped. Overnighting in the C 25 is a bit of a joke, & best left to lil' people.
Make sure that whatever C-30 you look at doesn't have original, worn out sails, as crisp sails give the best performance. Having owned both boats, the C-30 is definitely a good performer, the biggest 30 footer around, & pretty much unbeatable for the money invested.
