I intend to add a rope clutch on the port side of the cabin entry to match the set on the starboard. There is no evidence inside the cabin of the fastners on the starboard mounted element penetrating through to the inside of the cabin. How are the rope clutches secured to the cabin top? Or rather how do I secure the new one on the port side without compromising the interior appearance of the cabin?

Mounting plate

Your 1988 MKII catalina has aluminum plates imbedded under the fiberglass. Drill a slightly undersize hole and then tap it for the size fastener that you will use with your clutch. Be carefull not to drill too deep and penetrate the cabin. Try removing one of the bolts in the clutch on the other side to measure the length. Squirt a dollop of 4200 or lifecaulk down the hole and reset the bolt.

Thanks, Rick

Thank you for the information about the imbedded plates. That will make the project much cleaner assuming I do not goof it up. Thanks again.
