Catalina 27 Thumper owner

Hi . I am new to this forum and wonder if you can help me .

I have been looking at a Catalina 27 with the name Thumper on the bow with a cartoonish looking Rabbit .

I saw a post dated 09-12-2002 re an by EZE -Slide Outboard bracket by Fred McMullen .
On the stern it has a Vancouver BC registry .

I have been considering purchasing this vessel but it is in need of some tlc .
Tha mainhalyards have been cut and pulled out and the bottom has a heavy growth on it .

It has to be hauled and well you know the rest $$$.

What I would like to know is if anyone may know it's history after 2002
and when it changed hands and to who if possible .

I called the Canadian Federal Government to see who the previous owner was .
They are not allowed to give out that information unless you have the owners permission . Kinda like a catch 22 .

I'm not a Baliff or lawyer just an interested party trying to get as much info before I commit myself to the purchase .

Presently boat less but have had a few in the past and live on Saltspring Island BC .

Roger, my in-laws live in Cobble Hill, just on the other side of the channel from Saltspring.

Welcome to the forum.

Generally, the names of the previous owners is a lot less important than the condition of the boat as you are looking at it. That information really won't get you much unless they're willing to share what they might have done to the boat. Cold be someone between the last owner and now has done some not so nice things, too.

Take what you're seeing and go from there.

Thanks for the advice . I walked into a Catalina 30 with my eyes wide shut a few years ago and lost a considerable amount of money when I licked my wounds and bailed .

This time I'm perhaps being over cautious and asking too many questions .

I thought if I followed the chain of ownership I may find out a bit more info on how it was maintained .

I thought I'd try and see whose name the boat was registered in . ( to see if the present owner actually owns it )

I called the Canadian Federal Gov't and I was informed that unless I got the permission of the owner I could not access who the owner was. Even Revenue Canada needs a court order . I explained , well you can figure out the rest . Sorta Catch 22 .
