I want to install a split backstay on my 1981 Catalina 27. Any ideas about where to get the backstay fabricated? I don't think I trust myself, or a local shop to getbthe swedging right. Also, any ideas from someone who has put in the new chain plates on the transom.

Why?

I have a Cat 27 w/ a wheel and the corners are my snug areas to sit in. I thought about split wire but if I did it would interfer with my two favorite spots on the boat. So I decided against it. Besided the only time it bothers me is when I board from the ladder on the Transom. If you really want to go that route and there are no professional riggers in your area, you might want to check with a rigging shop up here in Annapolis. There are so many Cat 27s up here on the bay that they may be able to fabricate it in the shop based upon past work orders and ship it to you.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. The reason I want to install the split backstay is to control forestay tension. I'm not sure how Catalina got my fax number, but they sent me the dimensions for all the stays, including split backstay, with wire sizes. With that I can get someone here to make one for me. I still have the problem of fitting the tangs over the "bump" between the deck molding anb the hull. This is progress, though. Thanks again, Bob Booth
