Ahoy! I’ve just discovered that the scupper hoses in my 1986 Catalina 27 are disintegrating from the top down. I am at a complete loss to figure out how to access the top or bottom connectors of these hoses to the cockpit floor or the hull. Any guidance as to how to go about replacing these hoses would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Some photos may help us help you.

In general, you will need replacement hose of the proper type and diameter. And you will need to determine what sort of connection your boat uses. I have seen many unusual ways of attaching the scupper drain to the hull.

On my O’Day 322, the scupper drain hose uses hose clamps to tighten the hose to a barb under the cockpit drain. The other end is on an above the waterline thruhull barb, also tightened with a hose clamp.

On some boats, the hoses are crossed, so the port drain exits the hull on the STB side. This is to prevent flooding when the boat is heeled. My O’Day does not.

I don’t think most builders put valves on the scupper drain lines, but it would be a good idea if the drains exit below the waterline.

So, get some photos of the hoses and both ends….we can offer some better, more complete suggestions.

Check your aft berth for an access port. You may have to put one or two in there. It would've been possible to install my exhaust hose but it would've been a very painful three hour job. I cut out and installed an access port that turned this into a 40 minute job
