Catalina 27, 1984, with a single reef main I have secured the aft reef line to the boom block, run the line up the port side of the main sail, through the gromet, and down to the starboard sliding boom block to the boom cleat. The forward, leading edge, reef point appears to be a line from the port mast mounted cleat through the gromet to the starboard mast mount cleat. Is this correct?

reefing

Yes, that is correct. However, I only have one cleat on my mast so I pass the line through from the port side, through the grommet, and back to the cleat. If you have enough tail, take two passes through. Both my reefing lines are in rough shape and I'm sure even brand new weren't overly sturdy. Tim

You're right

It sounds like you have it right. The system is simple, but effective. When reefing, secure the forward edge (tack) first, then the aft edge (clew). Finally, take up on the halyard. Randy
