Would like to rig main back to cockpit. BUT were do I mount the winch? And what other blocks, etc do I need, ANY PICTURES THANKS

Factory Install
Here's a rather poor picture of the factory installation on my previous boat - a 1986 C27. The halyard exits the mast on the starboard side, is led to a turning block and then straight aft to a single rope clutch. (on the port side, the arrangement is copied, only two jib halyards are led back to a double clutch). The second line you (might be able to see at the turning block is the main sheet. It runs back, with no clutch. The winch (a lewmar Self Tailing 16 - I think) was through mounted in the coach house roof, and shared duty for both the halyard and (once the clutch was secured) for the main halyard. It has a blue cover in this picture. There is also a mess of mainsheet stowed up there in this picture. Sorry about the poor quality picture. What year is the boat?
Hey Pete, Most of the catalinas I've sailed are already equipped for cockpit run halyards. What year is the boat? For that matter even the mainsheet runs forward on the boom down the mast through several blocks and back to the halyard winch.( A horrible design that I've redone, my opine). I can send you pics of mine when I get back to the boat on Friday. Fair Winds, Grant

On my 270 ...
They look like this. There's a line stopper right in front each of the winches. On the 270, these are the jib winches as well.

Steverose, Did you put that handle on your
hatch & did you put one on the inside as well ? Just the other day when opening and closing in the rain a lot I wondered if a handle wouldn't improve things.

Ted, that picture is from before I bought the boat so everything on there is standard equipment. (Its a 2000, by the way.) There's no handle on the inside of the hatch.
