I am looking for a day sailer/weekend cruiser for mostly ocean use off of NH, ME and MA. Since moorings are hard to come by, I am looking for a large trailerable and am considering Catalina 250, Hunter 260 and possibly Rhodes 22. My guess is that many of you faced a similar choice, and I seek your advice and feedback. Thanks!

Best boat

in a large trailerable is a Precision 23. Jim Taylor designed and very well built. Great sailing characteristics.

Catalina 250

In regards to you wanting to know which boat is better between the Hunter and the other one (I never heard of it)vs. tha Catalina, lets just say I'd rather buy the Catalina than have the Hunter gave to me <smile>. I had a 25 and lived on it for about a year in 98. sailed in 5 major storms,2 tornados, and 1 hurricane. The 25 handles like a dream. Will turn on a dime. It has to be one of the best mid sized boats ever made I promise you that. Good luck with your search. Howard R.

A Rhodes 22?

I've heard nice things said about the Rhodes 22 (except when talking price and waiting time from the factory), but..... comparing one with a 250 or 260? I don't think there's any fair comparison -- the Cat and Hunter are so much larger. I assume that you are looking 250/260 because of the WB options. From that point of view, only the Mac meets that spec.... any other options are pretty much limited. Both the 250 and the 260 are much larger below decks than the older Mac 26d or c models (although you can pick those older ones up very reasonably). You'd have to look at the Mac 26X for a real size comparison....but the 26X is another animal onto itself. Good hunting, Brad
