Any one have an answer to my problem? When lowering or raising the keel, water wants to squirt up the hose in to the bilge ( not a lot maybe 3 to 5 ounces). Does all swing keels have this problem? Thanks

Not normal on C22 swing keel

I have a C22 swing keel. I just discovered that the source of water that I have been finding in the bilge comes from the 2" hose that the keel cable feeds thru. When backing out of the slip, I was having water perculate up the rubber hose. I bought a 2" rubber "FERNCO" cap at the hardware store for $3.50 and drilled a 5/16" hole in the end to match the cables position at the tube. I then removed the clamp and cut the side closest to the hole with a knife. I put the "FERNCO" over the rubber hose, and reinstalled the clamp, and slightly tightened it. No more water up the rubber hose!

There should be a "turning ball" . . .

in the hole where the keel cable goes. If it is missing, then that could be letting water go up into the bilge. It is also necessary to prevent the keel cable from cutting into the thru-hull. I would check to see if if there is a turning ball down inside the thru-hull.
