Catalina 25 sail question

I acquired a free 25 Catalina. Decent old boat acquired through back storage. The issue is, it came with no sails as they were not stored with the boat. The "P" dimension or luff is 24'6" according to saildata. I have a main with a 25' luff. The foot dimension is the same.

I did not pay enough attention when at the Catalina, does the gooseneck slide in the mast or is it on a fixed point? If it does slide, do I have enough room for it to sit 6" lower and still be fully engaged in the track with the luff and downhaul clinched tight?

I am trying to avoid the 40 miles trip to go over and verify this information.

I used to have a C25, and my gooseneck was NOT fixed, although I don't remember if I had the clearance to lower it six inches. You might post your question on the C25 owners' association forum. Nice folks, very helpful, very knowledgeable.

And... you often see boats with a black stripe near the top of the mast. This is for racing and it is the maximum height you can raise your sail. So... if you are lucky you may have four or five inches above that stripe and you may be able to raise your sail a little higher and then only lower your boom an inch or so.

If you do this... don't forget to move the black stripe...
