Looking at a c25 1980. The pan liner in the hull at the foot of the companionway is raised, sort of swelled up slightly, maybe one inch, runs down to the port side at galley, runs down going forward into cabin. Boat appears is good shape, owner says been like that for the four years of ownership, interior of aft dinette seat looks cracked at tabbing a little, at aft end. Is the pan liner deck area at the companionway foot normally dead level in these boats? Does maybe this indicate a keel strike, thius is a keel model? Sure would appreciate comments from those who know about this, thanks, ronrryan@hotmail.com

C25

I'm trying to remember the details, but I know for sure that the cabin soles in the C25 prior to 1987 were built with raised a raised area, I think in the starboard aft section. I think the port forward section was also raised with a slight vertical drop down the centerline to the starboard side. I had a fixed keel, traditional interior, non-dinette model myself, and I always wondered why they didn't design the sole lower throughout. They did in a fairly significant redesign in 1988. I'm 99 percent sure this is what you are seeing. As for the loose tabbing, this is probably not too unusual. Hopefully you are getting a look at the bottom, and if you don't see any other signs of cracking, splitting etc… it's probably fine. Do check for wet or rotted cores in the deck. The one I sold had soggy wood near the mast electrical connector, although it passed survey ok.

Cabin Floor Design

Hey Ron- Don't panic - it's normal... The design of the cabin floor lets the person(s) in the galley / dining area have a little more head room. I own a '77 Catalina 25 it's the same way. I believe the design is for strength - a landing pad fom the cockpit; if the cabin floor was flat (level with the rest of the floor) it wouldn't be as strong. i.e., A curved (convex) area has more strength than flat. Smooth sailing............._/)
