I'm helping a friend who recently purchased a 1984 C 25. Where do the sinks drain? I cannot find a thru hull above the waterline for either the head or galley sink. Also, I found the seacock under the galley sink and when I opened it, water came out of the hose facing aft. What is this seacock for, the head? There is also a seacock under the v-berth, I assumed it was for the head (which doesn't seem to be working). I'm afraid to think that all sinks drain into the bilge and there isn't an automatic bilge pump, but is that the case? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Bill

Sink Drains

Hi Bill, With a boat that's 17 years old now, the plumbing may be far from original/factory. However, the factory installation was: The galley sink drain and the ice box drain connected on a "T" attached to a "to-hull" and valve located under the waterline. Access to this valve was through a door in the cabinet under the stove. The sink drain in the head was connected to a "to-hull" and valve located under the waterline and in the V-berth compartment locker. Usually, if there was a marine head, the water input hose was connected to a second "to-hull" and valve (also located in the V-berth locker. Be careful turning the valves on "to-hulls". The "to-hull" is NOT a thru-hull fitting. It is simply a piece of threaded pipe that was first screwed into the fiberglass of the hull, then "reinforced" with epoxi putty. If you turn the valve with too much force (trying to turn it in the "wrong" direction) the "to-hull" will twist right out of the hull causing a large leak...........can you say fountain. Many of us with '80s vintage C25s have replaced the "to-hull" with honest-to-goodness thru-hull fittings. There are several discussions on this subject at the C25/C250 Association Website's forum. http://www.catalina25-250.org/ Bill Holcomb
