We love our Catalina 25 but find the V-berth is too small for us (my husband is 6'3"). We're contemplating building a folding platform that would fit in the cabin b/t the settees to make a larger sleeping area. Has anyone ever done this? We don't want to "reinvent the wheel" if someone already has plans or advice they'd be willing to share. Thanks! Suzanne

cabin bed

Thanks, Stu. I checked out the website you recommended and only found modifications for the dinette model. I should have mentioned that ours has the foldaway table. I did post my question on the other site, so appreciate your input and will hopefully hear from someone there. Suzanne

I did it on a C27

Suzanne, I am not sure of the exact C25 layout, but I did this on my C27. I put two 1.5" by 1.5" by about 5 foot long wood pieces down each side of the settees. I attached them to the fiberglass just under the teak trim that holds the cushions in place. That left me with a lip of about 3/4-1" sticking out. I made three boards out of ply wood that span the space between the settees and sit on the lip made by the 1.5 x 1.5 boards on each side. I used 5/8 ply and reinforced with alumminum angle iron. I got two pieces of foam cut to fit. The foam fits back in the quarter berth and the boards fit under the cushions when the bed is put away. If you want more information let me know. I also might have some pictures. John

Cabin Bed photos?

Thanks for the info, John, and we'd love to see photos. We have the fold away table model (not the dinette) and would like to incorporate the table if possible, but maybe this isn't necessary? Suzanne
