catalina 25 balanced rudder

I have a 1979 standard rig catalina 25 fin keel. A new design balanced rudder is available for about $600.00 plus shipping. I would like to build one myself but do not know the measurements. There are many 25s'in my area some of which have this rudder installed. There is a possibility to find a 25 up on the hard and check it out. Should anyone have this information I would appreciate knowing about it.

Michael,Where did you get a quote of $600.00 for the new balanced rudder?I called Catalina Direct last year and they quoted me a price of $428.00, which I believe was also the factory price.Building a new balanced rudder has been discussed over at the Sailor's Forum located at the C25/250 National Association website and of the people who have built their own rudders, it was determined that the savings from doing so was negligible.
