Catalina 22 Trailer Question

We are new to sailing and purchased a 1987 Catalina 22 from the original owner last year. He bought the boat brand new. We just had the trailer repainted. The bunk boards, keel board and all of the brackets were returned to us off the trailer. We now have 4 brackets that we do not know what to do with. They are U-shaped, the sides are 1-1/4 inches high and the middle is 2 inches long and 2 inches wide with an uncentered hole. Does anyone have an original 1987 trailer that they can look at to tell us where these brackets go? We do not have the keel board installed yet and are wondering if they are needed under the keel board so it is level on the trailer? If no brackets are used under the board, it will tilt down in the front around 1-1/4 inches. Is it suppose to tilt down in the front?

Brackets may be for the keel board

I am not really sure, but it sonds like these brackets secure to the bottom of the keel board using the uncentered holes you mention with some short screws. The brackets are then placed over the frame of the trailer, thus explaining why they are short u shapes. In this fashion, the keel board can be removed to let the keel drop more fully for maintaintence and inspection. Check out the the keel board and see if there are some small screw holes in one side.

What I would do is to go to a marina or boat yard and tell them what happened and ask if you can look at trailers in there storage yard, I think there you will get an idea how the brackets fit. Take a camera. You may find the exact trailer. Rich

Reply to Troy

Hi Troy - We have a single axle trailer and our Catalina 22 has a swing keel. I wish we would have taken a picture before giving the trailer to the paint shop. Live and learn!! Thanks for trying to help.

trailer for Catalina 22

Hi Ida, I am in the process of obtaining new parts for my single axle trailer to convert it for my 1974 Catalina. Once I have everything in place I will post some pictures of before, during and after installation. I hope it will help and not be too late for the information that you need.
