Hey, I've got a 22' and was thinking of trailering her down to Ft. Lauderdale and sailing over to the Bahamas for a week or so. I heard somewhere that charter sailboats don't mind you following them over because of the ole safety in numbers thing. I was planning to go in mud-June and check the weather first of course. Is this too dangerous with a little 22' boat? I'd appreciate some input. Thanks.

Bahamas

I made the crossing in an Irwin 23 about five years ago . No problem if you are careful , watch the weather window and don't go with an "N" in the wind direction. We are going over to West end around the 10th of June and you are welcome to come along . Sailing in the Bahamas is the best once you go you will be hooked . If you want to go with us or have any questions you can E-Mail me at entwistl@bellsouth.net . Rob

further south

You may want to start your trip furhter south than Ft. Lauderdale because of the Gulf Stream. I have read some stories about smaller boats making the crossing and they all seem to like starting at the southern end of Biscayne Bay or as far south as Key Largo. If the weather is good, you should have a great time.
